Since being revitalized eight years ago, this street has occasionally served as a gathering spot on big-news days. There was a jazz funeral-style procession in 2012, after North Carolinians voted a ban on same-sex marriage into the state Constitution, and a celebration two years later, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the ban.
